Japan promoted the idea that because the bomb ‘was nuclear’ as their justification for their surrender - truth in fact the (in relative terms, low yield…) nuclear bombing was not nearly as devastating or power-laden as the ongoing firebombing campaign occurring elsewhere throughout Japan’s major cities and industrial areas…The nukes were merely an an visual exercise to warn Stalin against invading remaining Europe…
